With only 11 days away from the next D1:10 round I realised I didn’t do a post about round 3. Well, here it is but its a short one.
Round 3 saw the introduction of yet another new venue for the D1:10. Coronel Karting in Huizen opened their doors for us to use one of their 2 indoort kart circuits. The track had some interesting features like a banked corner and a 25 meter outside clipping zone which got the cars up to ridiculously high speeds on this very tight indoor track. And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge the track wasn’t very well light so a lightkit installed in your car was a must-have.
The qualifying sessions showed that this wasn’t a track for beginners. I think I have never seen so much zero-points scores before. I was having trouble with the long wallride clippingzone as my C33 Laurel shell was a bit big for this track and I kept hitting the wall with the rear bumper. However in my qualifying session I found some focus and managed to stay out of the wall and put down a good score. Seeing that all the others were struggling to get round the track aswell meant that my not that exciting score was actually one of the highest. Top qualifyer was Jim with just 77 points. Best TWS driver was Ricardo with 68 points on 4th place and I got 5th place with 66 points. Edo was a bit lower on the list on the 13th spot with 47 points.
After the lunch break it was time for the battles, starting all the way down the ranking with poule D. Joost and Bop (pictured above) were the two winners of poule B and progressed to the top 16 where they would meet again in the battle for 3rd and 4th place. Joost eventually won and got 3rd place, but also very well done by Bop. Both drivers could be named the round 3 battle king as they did 7 battles.
Edo and I were both knocked out in our first battle in top16 but Ricardo moved on. After beating Edo, Arno and Bop he landed in the battle for first place against Edwin. It looked like it was going to be a very close battle but Ricardo spun out after hitting the boarding on the first run. All Edwin had to do now was not make any major mistakes and so he did.
And that meant yet another podium finish for Team Wreck it Sideways. First place was Edwin followed by Ricardo, Joost and on 4th place Bop. The picture is in random order. My good qualifying score landed me on 11th position and Edo got 15th. For Edo this was bad as he had dropped 2 spots on the overall ranking from 1st to 3rd. Still, anything can change again next round as the point difference in the top 16 is very minimal.
TWS’ ranking at the moment:
3: Edo
6: Ricardo
10: Tijs
19: Dennis
23: Reinier
I am really looking forward to next month. First up is round 4 of the D1:10 series which will be held at HFCC again. We will have some very big news at that round. After that we have 2 events here in Eindhoven where we might get a feature on a big car website. And the last weekend of august is big! We’ll be heading to the UK for the annual D1RC World Championship with a 15-person Team Orange of which 3 are TWS drivers. Live updates from the world championship will be posted on the teams facebook page and twitter account (Team Orange on FB and @TeamOrange_NL on twitter).
Lots of cool things happening in the coming weeks then, so keep an eye out on our website for pictures, video’s and full reports of these events.
